Dehydration increases body fat! Every thing we eat our body tries to convert to glucose, it is the only fuel for our brain. Water contributes to energy storage along with glycogen. The more dehydrated you are, the more glucose remains in your bloodstream and will be stored as FAT. When your body is dehydrated it pulls water from the cells to hydrate the body. This includes your FAT cells. When your Fat cells are dehydrated your body will not use that fat for energy, instead it will use whatever fuel is readily available in the body.

So if you put in hours at the gym and aren't seeing much of a change it could be that your actually really dehydrated and no amount of activity will allow your body to use its excess fat for energy.

Not only that, but it is our kidneys job to filter toxins, waste, water and salt out of the blood stream and our livers duty to metabolize stored fat into energy. The liver however, CAN NOT WORK if the kidneys are not functioning properly. The liver must work harder and thus, metabolizes less fat.

It is recommended to drink 8 glasses of water a day. This is not enough water at all. We need water to function properly and if you're not peeing clearly and guzzlin the stuff throughout the day than you need to be drinking more.

Today I was in the dairy section of my local Safeway, and spotted and picked up these new bars, called Attune.  Supposedly they have 5x the amount of probiotics as yogurt.  They're vegan (not that I care, but some do), only 100 calories in a bar, and one box is a week's supply (7 bars), and it was dirt cheap (on sale 10 for $10), so I figured "what the heck, why not?"
I got the chocolate crisp, hoping against hope that they wouldn't suck.  
OMG.  They are AMAZINGLY tasty!  Seriously, it tastes like an actual chocolate bar.  But, way better for you.  One bar has just the right size for portion sanity, 7g fat, 8g sugar, 1g protein, 3 g fiber.  Still not *great* for you, but WAY better than a Hershey's bar!

Looking for a new fitness program? How about trying the Presidential Fitness Challenge. This challenge comes in three varieties:

1. The Active Lifestyle Program - For those of you who aren't active on a daily basis yet, this is a great way to begin. The rules are basically to get a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise at least 5 days a week, for a total of 6 weeks.

2. The Presidential Champions Program - If you're already active and want a new challenge, this program is for you. Your goal is to see how many points you can earn by staying active. Points are based on the amount of energy each activity burns. So the more active you are, the more points you'll get. When you reach 20,000 points, you'll earn a Bronze award. Then you can continue on in the Presidential Champions program for a Silver or Gold award.

3. The Advanced Performance Presidential Champions Program - This is basically the same system as the Presidential Champions Program, except that the award goals are higher. For instance, you need to get 40,000 points to earn a Bronze award.

I'm going to a music festival (download) this weekend with my non-veggie boyfriend - but he'll eat what I eat! - (late Thursday night travelling and coming home Monday morning) where we'll be camping. We won't get much time to cook or anything because we're going for the "rock" so please keep that in mind!

We're thinking about getting disposable BBQs and a cool box but don't really not what to take, what will last, or what to cook when. We're not into eating junk food for a whole weekend so I'd really appreciate any ideas you have for quick camping breakfasts, dinners and snacks. Also if you know about storing and cooking while camping I'm a bit new to it - Princess ideals holding true! - so...yes!

Hi everyone, I'm a new member. I have a quick question. Over the summer I would diet and was down to about 126 (I'm 5'6" so I was happy with that) However lately I just eat, I can't seem to stop, there has been no real change in my life, other than being stressed out I know I have gained weight so how do I stop eating like this? I play soccer, and that just ended and plan on going to start working out again (I took a few days off between soccer and working out again)

I cant drink plain water. I truely dont like the taste. People say it is tasteless, but i just cant drink it. (except while playing sports, because gatoraid and other sport drinks make my saliva thick, and i choke on it)
My question, i dont like soda because it weakens your bones, and I dont like most juices because 80 percent dont contain 100 percent juice, and if i drink all the ones that contain it, that is about 110 cals a glass, times that by 8 = 880 calories just from drinking that i can use on food.

so i drink flavored water. sometimes even low calorie sport water drinks. propel, optuima (sp?). they are only about 15 cals a serving. when I drink some flavored water like Dasayne strawberry it has the taste without the calories. I heard bad things about flavored waters. People say that the sodium and other preservatives they put in them are worse then drinking water itself.

I was wondering if anyone knew any information about falvored waters? Or what you think about them.

i wa sseriously fat when i started swimming then 33 yeah later im skinny aboutevery month i swim i loose weight just eat healthy and swim that is what i do i have a toned body and a nice mental stae and im loving it! so advice of the day SWIM a couple laps 7,000 meters will do the trick about every other day or every day !

Hi, I just joined this community, and I'd like to introduce myself...
My name is Christine, and I'm a vegetarian. I've been a practically my whole life- I was born and raised one until I turned 11. I started to eat meat for a couple of years, but realized that I didn't like the idea or taste for the most part...so I am now a vegetarian again (I am 17). I am interested in new recipes, even though I known as the microwave queen.

I am very interested in health, and plan to major in dietetics when I graduate from high-school. Although I am young, I hope to help out if anyone has any health questions, I know more than the average person my age does, and I don't mind sharing my health issues and lifestyle. Delicious and nutritious [10 Apr 2005|04:34am]

So. I moved out awhile ago, been doing my own grocery shopping (which can be a blessing, but also a burden..especially when you're hungry and craving some junk food). Since the weather is getting more tame around here, I'm interested in treating myself to healthy foods and exercising whenever I can.

So, a couple food related questions for you. . .

- What are some good things to pick up at the grocery store that will really get me going and will actually do my body a favor?
- What are some easy breakfast, lunch, and dinner meal plans. I love playing chef, but I don't always have the time to whip up something amazing.
- What keeps you motivated to eat healthy?

Any responses would be great. I'm really trying to get on track and it's always good to know what other people are doing to get on track, or even just to stay on track.
